In addition to the great gains from classes, I also participated in a series of projects and research activities to obtain a more visual understanding of knowledge acquired. The most impressive one is my participation in undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship activity. In order to study the domestic household service industry, we, taking Chengdu as an example, made a lot of efforts from the initial choice of the topic to the design of the questionnaire to obtain research data, then to the investigation, and finally, to data analysis and interpretation. In this process, we encountered many difficulties, such as the scientific design of the questionnaires, the representative selection of investigation targets, the objectivity of data interpretation and method adoption. In the end, after continuous revision and improvement, we successfully completed the analysis of the current situation and existing problems of the household service industry in Chengdu and came up with suggested solutions, with papers published. This one-year project allowed me to apply the statistical knowledge and economic analysis methods I learned in practice, and also enabled me to realize the positive value economics bring to the society-through analysis of economic behaviours, solving economic problems and promoting the healthy development of society.
However, although involving a wide range of disciplines, the undergraduate education is a little bit theoretical and dated. For example, in the International Finance course, the teacher always self-refuted that the theories taught could not be fully applied in practice due to time lag, strategic delays, etc. Therefore, I hope I can continue my postgraduate studies to acquire more novel and cutting-edge economics knowledge at this stage.

UESTC, being hailed as “the pacesetter of China’s electronic technology”, has made notable contributions to its rapid development by carrying out leading-edge scientific research and cultivating top talents. Majoring in Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation at UESTC, I have the privilege of receiving the top-notch and multidisciplinary training in precision machinery, electronics, circuit, optics, automatic control, computer and information technology. And, the systematic study of advanced mathematics has trained my logical thinking. In academic study and practice, I learned the principles of A/D conversion and built some instrument test systems through high-speed ADC to achieve accurate measurement of signals. During this process, I became infatuated with digital signal processing, acquired the know-how of DTFT, Z-transform and FFT, and completed the design of a digital filter independently, laying a well-knit foundation for my further study.
Winning the National First Prize in the National Science and Technology Innovation Competition for College Students has set up my confidence to quest for advanced study. At the end of 2019, I started the research on the application of digital electronic technology in the communication network. Initially, I consulted numerous references to analyze the characteristics of digital electronic technology, including the security and strong anti-interference of digital signal storage, low power consumption and cost of digital electronic technology, and the integration and miniaturization of digital equipment. Then, I explored the application of digital electronic technology from three aspects: signal conversion, signal processing, and transmission and processing of network information. Last, I analyzed the application advantages, status, and trends of digital electronic technology in the communication network. By observing and practising how the digital equipment is composed and how it works in the laboratory, I achieved the combination of practice and theory. This research experience has offered me a deep comprehension of electronic engineering, especially in communication, and an unprecedented sense of fulfilment, encouraging me to explore this domain in depth.

The previous education makes me deeply aware of the significance and precision of communication and signal processing. Each factor in this process is unignorable stretching from modulation, channel transmission, to demodulation as each petty detail matters much in the final outcome. That also gives me a more professional understanding of the most popular 5G boom, the production of communication technology. Many countries have pumped money into developing and establishing 5G base stations. Some even launch R&D of 6G because the highest communication efficiency and leading-edge technology will usher in a more rapid development speed. View from current research trend, communication and signal processing play a major part in the social and technological growth today and tomorrow. It stimulates me to be a part of it to see the game-changing development led by this technology.
After completing my master’s degree, I want to join companies like Huawei or Qualcomm and engage in cutting-edge technology projects in communications. I hope that I can conduct communications research and manufacture high-efficiency communications modules that can be mass-produced. The communications industry has gain worldwide attention, especially in China, where there are already tens of millions of 5G users and hundreds of thousands of 5G base stations. But the technologies we have are not mature enough as we are too dependent on foreign precision equipment. In the near future, I hope we can gain momentum in independent R&D. I pile hopes on my graduate studies, and I hope it can empower me to contribute my part to this cause.
